Harley Street Physiotherapy

Physio Visit

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WHEN I COME FOR A PHYSIOTHERAPY VISIT?

On arriving at Harley Street Physiotherapy please take the lift or stairs to the 2nd floor.  You will be greeted in the waiting room by our receptionist and asked to fill out a registration form.

At your initial consultation you will first be asked a comprehensive series of questions relevant to your complaint.  This helps the physiotherapist to target an appropriate phyisical examination and to develop an idea of what the cause of your complaint might be.

The following physical examination will firstly involve looking at the movements of the affected area and you may be asked to remove relevant clothing so you should dress appropriately.  Your posture, the strength and length of muscles and health of ligaments and tendons will be assessed.

The physiotherapist will use their hands to assess the relevant area for tightness of muscles, stiffness of joints and tenderness of other tissues such as ligaments and tendons.

From the full examination, the physiotherapist will develop a knowledge of the cause of your problem, which will then be discussed with you.  It is important that you understand why your problem exists, why it behaves as it does, and how you can be involved to improve and resolve it.

Treatment will usually involve some techniques performed by the physiotherapist which will be fully explained as to the reason and desired effect.  This will largely be "hands on" treatment.  Other adjuncts to treatment, such as ultrasound, may be used.

Then you will invariably be given exercises to perform at home, advice on any fitness routine and further advice on posture and changes to make at work or home.  These will all be explained.

How much treatment and for how long you may need treatment will be discussed with you and as appropriate, any further appointments can be made at reception.

Harley Street Physiotherapy is focussed on an approach to your recovery which involves you understanding your problem, it's treatment and how you can best be involved in that process of recovery.
