Assessment

At your first appointment, our expert physiotherapists will take a thorough history of your problem and ask detailed questions about the behaviour of your symptoms and relevant medical history. Your physio will then observe, examine and test various movements and structures in order to diagnose your problem and establish the cause of your symptoms.

A treatment plan will be discussed with you and implemented to get you back to normal, pain-free, movement in the shortest possible time and to help prevent the problem occurring again.

Please remember to bring any relevant information such as scans, X-rays or medical reports with you for your first appointment if you have them.

Scarwork Treatment:

Justine has trained with Sharon Wheeler, Body in Harmony and Restore Therapy.

Scarwork is a gentle treatment where light focused touch is used to help ease and soften scar tissue and the surrounding areas.

The aim is to help scar tissue become more supple and less tethered or adhered to other structures or layers, in order to help integrate it back into the surrounding tissues as much a possible.  This can help reduce the pull on the immediate or surrounding areas, whether deep or superficial, which may also help to reduce discomfort or pain and increase range of movement. For example, treatment for a tight Caesarean section scar may have a positive effect on back pain or other areas that have been impacted by the tension from the scar tissue.

The appearance of the scar may also become smoother and less visible over time.

Treatment can begin as soon as the scar is 6-8 weeks old and fully healed. It doesn’t matter how old the scar is, this gentle work can help at any stage, whether after two months or 60+ years old.

Massage can help to alleviate pain, restore movement and promote relaxation. It releases tension and stiffness in strained or restricted muscles, ligaments, tendons and soft tissues and is beneficial for overall well-being.

"I went to HSP in a cynical mood.  As an agnostic where physio is concerned, I found I was treated by true professionals who have improved my life considerably. Real concern and careful personal attention is the keynote. You might say I came to jeer but stayed to cheer.”
