He played a wide range of summer and winter sports at a competitive level, which resulted in numerous sports injuries. Receiving considerable rehabilitation treatment for his own injuries sparked his interest in Western forms of physical therapy. In his 20’s, while travelling and living in Asia, he was introduced to Traditional Oriental Medicine and its holistic approaches to understanding health. This inspired him to train in Eastern bodywork and healing arts methods, including Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture, Shiatsu, Reiki, Yoga and Meditation. His training as a Manual Soft Tissue Therapist began in Switzerland in 1994. He studied Swedish, Sports and Deep Tissue Massage in 1995. In 1996/97, he completed an advanced training in soft tissue therapy. In 1999, he qualified from a three-year training course in Shiatsu, a Japanese form of acupressure bodywork based on the concept of Traditional Oriental Medicine and its treatment of body and mind. He followed this up with postgraduate Shiatsu study in London and Zurich, where he studied with some of the most experienced teachers in this field and took a teacher training course with the European Shiatsu School in 2000/02. This eventually led him to study traditional Japanese acupuncture and TCM or Chinese acupuncture.
